Report Dated 09/04/98

Sebring

Fly count: No flies have been detected since the last fly was trapped on August 10, 1998. The total count for Sebring is 134 since the initial catch on July 9th.

Treatment: My understanding is that the eighth and final treatment is scheduled for tomorrow morning, Saturday, September 5, 1998, weather permitting. Next week we should complete the final ground bait treatments in the buffered areas surrounding sensitive sites. Following this, trapping density will remain at the current density, for two more life cycles - if no flies are trapped, eradication will be declared. Assuming all goes well, we're looking at an eradication declaration sometime in the October-November time frame. I am not certain as to whether steriles will be used in this area following eradication.

Traps: As of August 31st there were a total of 4522 traps deployed in a 207 square mile survey area: 3504 Jackson; 265 McPhail, and 753 yellow panel traps.

Environmental Monitoring: The following results are from samples associated with the seventh aerial treatment of August 29.
Pre Post
Lake Sebring 0.1 - 0.3 ppb 0.51 ppb
Dinner Lake BDL 1.1 ppb
Little Red Water BDL 2.0 ppb
Denton Lake BDL 0.44 ppb
Little Lk Bonnet BDL 0.31 ppb

All samples were below detection limits (BDL) for malaoxon.

The method detection limit (MDL) and practical quantification limit (PQL) for both malathion and malaoxon remain unchanged at 0.1 and 0.3 ppb respectively. Drift card data from the same treatment event:

Health Monitoring: No report.
